DOWNTIME 2: ACOUSTIC

Back by popular demand, Downtime is a series of mixtapes designed to personify moments of relaxation, meditaion, retrospection, introversion, and the like. Given the first Downtime had a more contemporary and electric vibe, I decided to piece together some acoustic sounds and rare live recordings to complement the first offering.

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY

Jay-Z - 99 Problems (Nick James Remix)

You may be wondering why I posted my "99 Problems" remix for my birthday?  Well, I don't have 99 problems but this song is one (Yes! that pun just happened).  This is my first good remix.  I made the "Encore" remix right before this but that song sounded like my old style of producing.  This remix solidified my trajectory as a producer.  Six years ago I created The Color Line and "99 Problems" was the first thing I played for my friend Wes.  I was in my 83 Celica with 15' inch speaker and when he got in the car outside Grass Valley Court, he immediately was juiced when I played it.  Ever since that moment I never looked back on music.

LETTER TO JAY

Jay,

I've remixed countless songs of yours over the years and if he can get some air time, at least give your boy a shout.  Just once.  My Say Hello Remix is sonically Blueprint 1-ish and that album is a classic!  Just a thought.  I doubt Mr. acid wash jeans/knee high boots/extra long cardigan gave you Roc-A-Fella start up money.  I'm just saying.  BTW, who is that guy?

It's Ya Boy!,

More stuff from the vault.  I guessed the dates but I now know they are 2004 not 2005.  Oh well.

American Gangster Remixed by...ME

Posted: Monday, December 24, 2007 | | Labels: , , , 0 comments

Not to be too self serving but I couldn't think of a better post to describe the Free Life. I remixed Jay-Z's American Gangster and the sound of the album is the soundtrack to the Free Life. I made this album in five days!
